A brief stand off with police Friday at the Greater Johnstown Career and Technology
Center. This after a boy locked himself in a classroom with access to knives.
Richland Township Police quickly responded. The call came in about 9:00 Friday morning. The situation was under control by noon. Classes were not stopped and no one was injured, including the special needs boy. Richland
Township police say they were able to talk to the boy right away, and calm his down.
The boy was
not near any other students during the incident.Teachers called
police and reported the boy had a violent outburst and threw furniture
in a classroom where he had access to knives.
Police were called as part of the school's procedure in dealing
with emergencies.High school students and adult students attend
the school to receive special training on trades like mechanics and
cosmetology. The school also rents out space to other organizations,
and administrators said the boy was part of an organization that helps
people who have special needs.
