Parents in Somerset County are not happy after finding out it was borough's fault their children couldn't play basketball.
Parents and their young children showed up Wednesday night at the Community Building for scheduled games, only to find out they had all been canceled. The reason, the abrupt firing of longtime borough administrative assistant
Robin Gates.
Gates handled the Community Building on her own, but after being let go, there is no one to take over that position.
Gates has been the secretary for the past 14-years, and some council members were against her firing, saying she held a vital position, and letting her go would not save the borough money. Other council members disagreed, saying it all has to do with budget-saving measures.
Gates has overseen recreation programs at the Community Building and Windber
Recreation Park since the borough eliminated the recreation director
position several years ago.
