In Centre County restoration work continues on a former one room school house thats now nearly 150 years old
It’s the little school house with the funny name, the Boogersburg School built in 1877, with one classroom and it remained open for decades
“It had classes, grade one through eight, up through 1957. In fact we still have alumni that will stop in our open house”
The school built on land once owned by Moses Thompson, a local businessman who also provided the land for the nearby Farmers High School the first successful Agricultural College in the Nation which eventually became Penn State.
The school house was built to provide classes for the children of Thompson’s tenant farmers.
The current owner of the school house, the Centre County Historical Society, is restoring the building and the grounds with painting, roof repair, and other upgrades. It’s still a popular site for school class trips for students to get another perspective on the term old school.

Its expected the restoration work will be completed next Spring
