Former Centre County Church Goes Up In Flames

An early morning fire that destroyed a Centre County Church site, has investigators focusing on whether the blaze was intentionally set.

Shortly before three in the morning, Wednesday flames spotted shooting through the roof at the Old Fillmore United Methodist Church in Patton Township

“So we were behind the eight ball, crews arrived and confirmed the sanctuary and roof were well involved”

Added fire companies called a second alarm issued for more personnel and water supplies. Six hours later, pieces of the roof still being checked for hot spots.

Now, a looming question about a possible cause of the blaze, is it an arson case? Early clues point to that possibility

“It appeared to start on the outside.state police fire Marshall is investigating as an intentional fire”

Because of the collapsing roof, it was too dangerous for crews to fight the fire from the interior, which is now gutted, fortunately no was hurt

“The church wasn’t being used as a church.it was vacant. it was being used a recreational facility”

This is the second fire at a Centre County church site in the past few weeks.last month, another overnight fire heavily damaged the Woodycrest United Methodist Church, also in Patton Township
