Dereck Raimey Asks For Bail Reduction

Ten months after his violent arrest in Centre County, a Tennessee man remains jailed and is now asking a judge to reduce his bail as he awaits a major court decision in his case.

Dereck Raimey’s arrest video stirred comments and controversy as it showed Raimey being repeatedly punched and yanked out of his vehicle, near Milesburg, last December, after state police say he led them on a drug-fueled, high-speed chase for twenty minutes after they first tried to stop him on Interstate 80.

Raimey remains jailed on 100 thousand dollars bail.

Last week, he filed a motion to lower the bail, saying he has no source of income while incarcerated.

He also claims the district attorney’s office has made no type of offer to resolve his case, and long-awaited DNA tests are still pending.

Police say they want to see if the DNA could link Raimey to a pistol that he may have tossed out of his vehicle during the chase.

Raimey’s legal counsel termed his arrest “a sustained and brutal assault,” and in July, a hearing was held on a motion, filed on Raimey’s behalf, challenging the validity of the traffic stop, as well as a follow up drug test, which police say showed that Raimey was under the influence of cocaine and other drugs.

A Centre County judge has yet to issue a ruling on the motion, a decision that could set a timetable on future court action in Raimey’s case.
