Saving The Keppler Barn

Efforts continue to save a historic barn in Centre County.

Organizers are now facing a short deadline to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The Keppler Barn is owned by Penn State. The property, part of the Rock Springs Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center.

Penn State initially said the barn was headed for demolition, but has now given those trying to save it,

“Just over two months until June first to raise a half a million dollars for restoration costs which sounds like a daunting task”

Thats Vicky Keppler Didato the Great Great Great Granddaughter of the Keppler Farm’s Founders.

She’s working with others in heading up the save the Millile Keppler Barn Organization.

Millie Keppler an amazing story herself, during the great depression, Keppler lost her husband and a teenage son

Plus faced a $20 thousand dollar bank foreclosure and yet kept the farm operating gaining wide acclaim

Didato stressing Penn State isn’t an adversary to the restoration effort

But now, an uncertain future for the Keppler Barn with hopes it could be given new life

Its believed the oldest part of Keppler barn was built close to two hundred years ago.
