Penn State Students Worried About Visa Revocation

We begin tonight with Penn State students and communities reacting to the recent news of a number of international students getting their visas revoked.

Our Michael Mirville is live on Campus today and has more on the communities response to these ongoing developments.

In response to the recent Federal Immigration Policies affecting International Students in Penn State and other Colleges across the country, some in the Penn state community are now yearning to speak out for their International peers.

Students on campus are seeing the effects of these Visa Revocations in many different ways.

This after the announcement that Federal Officials are taking Visas of individuals who have criminal records or haven’t adhered to court orders.

President Donald Trump in January ordering agencies to identify countries for which Visas should be suspended or revoked.

For one Penn State Senior, they don’t believe these Visa status changes are fair for International Students.

“I mean they’re here to study, they’re here to get a degree and build a future for themselves and I’m sure this is not at all what they expected. I don’t think it’s fair. They are students just like the rest of us.”

For many International Students, these Visa changes can reach far beyond the classroom.

Some students are stuck with off campus leases that they are legally binded to, and could be facing potential financial penalties.

For one student who works for student apartment living at the point, she says that these situations leave both International Residents and housing companies in limbo.

“It’s just like definitely frustrating for them to have to move out this thing so suddenly. And it’s definitely frustrating for people housing them too because we don’t know what to do or what to say to them because we feel bad but we can’t change certain policies.”

Supporters of the International Student Community are now calling to join together and speak out against these legal status changes.

“I just think that we should all advocate for our International Community. I think now is the time to really get together and support each other so I hope we do that.”

Penn State Students hope sharing their voices could bring awareness to what they say are the issues with revoking these International Visas.
