State College Food Bank Anniversary

In recent weeks we’ve told about area food banks facing more challenges while dealing with an increasing demand.

At the State College Food Bank they’re saying thanks to the many partners who are helping to meet the challenges.

More now from Gary Sinderson

Thursday at the State College Food Bank a party a celebration an anniversary

“We opened our new facility last April. We are so thankful, a dream come true. We’re here celebrating and unveiling our donor wall. our capital campaign donors who made it possible for this to be a mortgage free space for us”

More space 18 thousand square feet. For the food bank, badly needed especially with more asking for help.

That situation ongoing, and now added worries, trickle down concerns is how the director here terms it about the status of State and Federal funding assistance

“The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank participated in some of those USDA cuts. That is food we were able to purchase at a lower price.so my guess is our food prices are going to go up because of that. Naturally the need is going to go up too”

To highlight the food bank’s private sector fundraising a new donor wall. The artist telling us its a visual to express thanks about human kindness

“Something that represents giving food to everybody who needs it. Bouncy, color, comforting”

While we were on the tour, we asked whats one donated food item they’d like to see more of

“We can never have enough ready to eat soup. The Progresso’s, Chunks, those type of soups”

The State College Food Bank now serves about 520 families a month.
