At about 10:40 Saturday night the Altoona Fire Department were dispatched to a house fire with multiple people still trapped inside.

Officials say three children were ultimately rescued from the third floor, but tragically, one person did not make it, in a fire that is still currently under investigation.

Saturday night, fire crews responded to a structure fire at 105 East 4th Avenue in Altoona.

They arrived at the scene to find seven people trapped inside of the house.

Three of those people were immediately rescued from the first floor.

Per Altoona Fire Department, three children were trapped and eventually brought down and out from the third floor.

But unfortunately, one person located at the second floor, 64 year old Sandra Howard, tragically died despite firemen efforts for rescue.

Seven firefighters were reportedly injured at the fire and transported to various medical facilities in the area. They all believed to be in stable condition.

“This fire unfortunately had an outcome that we do not like to have. Our firefighters put their best foot forward, I truly feel, in trying to affect as many rescues as possible. You know, our hearts go out to the family in this trying time.”

At this time, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
