In Centre County, a long awaited vote could be coming soon on a regional solar power purchasing agreement, but the political bickering is also heating up, with some involved already saying they don’t support the project.
The project has been in the works for years, with close to ten organizations and municipal entities, including Centre County government and State College Borough, working on an agreement to purchase solar power.
Officials say the idea being that the agreement will help to lower power bills.
But now there are disagreements on the legal fees for the project, along with other questions.
One of those speaking out is State College Borough council member Josh Portney, who says despite repeated requests, he can’t even get a copy of the borough’s current electric bill to compare with the projected agreement power prices.
“I got nothing and its infuriating. And it’s not just me, it’s council member Heradon. These are simple things. Just send me a copy. I don’t even need to see the whole thing. I don’t need to see the card information. I just need to see the bill.”
Portney says for simply asking questions and criticizing the solar agreement process, he’s facing unfair criticism, and attempts to remove himself from the regional government committees.
