Centre Hall Elementary School Helps With Hurricane Relief

The outpouring of support continues in the wake of the devastating hurricanes that have hit the south.

And that support is coming from many, including a group of school kids in Centre County.

On Thursday afternoon, a young caravan of disaster relief support goods was delivered to the Centre Hall fire hall.

“I wanted to be involved in this so I could donate stuff to the people who don’t have anything to eat, that just got hit by the hurricane, because they’re going to lose their lives if they don’t have anything to eat or do.”

The caravan consisted of a group of third graders, from Centre Hall Elementary, who have been collecting donations.

The donations include lots of water, clothes, cleaning supplies and soap.

“Some people might stink from the hurricane. So, they might need some deodorant, something like that.”

The donations also include items for kids like themselves.

“We have tons of art stuff. So, we thought unused crayons they might like and want to color with.”

The fire company is heading up the effort to send the donated items south.

“I wasn’t expecting this much but I’m really glad they got all this stuff.”

A lesson being repeated across the country, pitching in isn’t limited by age.

“We are a community to help one another. You don’t have to be a grown-up to help and support. We are helping the students to realize the world is much bigger than here in
Penns Valley.”
