Dubois Concern Over Pedestrian Accidents

Dubois Police are working to figure out how to reduce the number of pedestrian accidents in the city.

Residents have brought up the concerns to police, and those concerns were addressed to council at this week’s council meeting.

There have been 5 incidents of pedestrians getting hit by vehicles since April of 2021.

“It doesn’t sound like a lot of pedestrians injured, but with the amount of people we have walking, it is a pretty high number. So it’s definitely a concern for the city of Dubois as well as the law enforcement.”

The police chief says their investigations show that these accidents happen when vehicles are making left hand turns while pedestrians are crossing legally in a crosswalk when those pedestrians have the right of way.
