Local Congressman Holds AG Summit

Pennsyvania’s Agricultural industry will be highlighted this week in Centre County at several well known events.

This Morning, AG officials and lawmakers talked about the future of the industry.

It was Congressman Glenn Thompson’s annual AG Summit meeting at the Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology. Leaders here seeing a bright future for one of the state’s top industries

“As we look at the AG budget that was just passed,the amount of innovation,dollars that was put to us to think outside the box,to take agriculture places it never has been before is super important”

One concept being talked about for farming value added agriculture which has different meanings in different settings.

Generally it refers to a production process or manufacturing that adds values to basic agriculture goods. In Pennsylvania there’s multiple opportunities

“Value added to me is an interesting framing for discussion,and also a great description of Pennsylvania agriculture. our diversity is our strength”

Penn State’s AG Progress Days will get underway Tuesday,and run through Thursday at the University’s Rocks Springs Research Area in Ferguson Township. Then later in the week, its the opening of the 150th anniversary edition of the Centre County Grange Fair.
