We’re continuing our coverage of International Penn State Students speaking out about their Visas being revoked and being forced to leave the United States
Now in Centre County, the District Attorney is confirming that at least a dozen of those recently cited were on Student Visas.
Here’s Gary Sinderson with more details
Penn State recently issuing a statement of being aware that some International Students had their lawful status in the United State terminated
“I can confirm that is in fact happening, we had 12 that have come through our court system.of had charges filed that have had their status revoked, those 12 I’m speaking of were all non-violent, no prior criminal recordsretail thefts pretty common in a retail town”
Centre County District Attorney Bernie Cantorna saying he’s not certain if the dozen he’s referring to were all associated with Penn State although they all were in the United States on Student Visas.
The District Attorney’s Office became aware of the Visas being revoked, because most of those cited were in a Special Probationary Program and requested if they could complete the program requirements in their home countries
The DA adds he’s not certain how the Visa status for those cited came to the attention of federal authorities
“I would guess it has to do with the booking and fingerprinting, that they’re being identified through NCIC, the National Criminal Data Base system either that or somebody from the Department Of State or Homeland Security is actually paying attention to the individual dockets for retail theft in Centre Co. Which, I hope, they report doing that”
According to the District Attorney, the dozen who had their Visas revoked were given 15 days to leave the country.
