Penn State Visa Changes Update

Were continuing to follow the changes in federal policy surrounding the monitoring of visas for international college students.

The question is could this mean some students will be returning back to campus

Gary Sinderson tells us what school officials are saying

Centre County District Attorney Bernie Cantorna says his office is now aware of 25 cases in Centre County where student visas were recently revoked suddenly.

He stresses, although they were involved with the county court system for minor infractions, such as retail theft, none of the 25 have been convicted of any crimes.

Most are in a court diversion program, where their record can eventually be erased. Many of those cited from Penn State left the country voluntarily, fearing forced deportation that could send them somewhere besides their home
country.

Penn State has said its supporting the students impacted. Mainly through the university’s global office.

The dispute centers on SEVIS the Federal Students And Exchange Visitor Information System which tracks the status of international students visas.

After a series of recent Federal court suits such as this one were filed Nationwide, legally challenging SEVIS status terminations and visas then being revoked, the Feds last week reinstated SEVIS records for hundreds of

International students Nationwide.

Penn State has more than 11,500 internationals faculty, staff and students.
