It was more than four years ago when a former Penn State Football Player accused other Players of hazing and abuse. Now a Federal Judge is saying it may be time to take this case to trial. Thats what Federal Judge Matthew Braun wrote this week in the latest ruling in the case involving former Nittany Lion Penn Football Players, Isiah Humphries and Damion Barber.
Humphries filed suit in 2020 — accusing Barber and other Players at the time, along with Head Coach James Franklin, and the University with a host of allegations — claiming he was the victim of physical, emotional and sexual abuse caused by teammates. Over time, the presiding Judge dismissed all the Defendants, except Barber. His motion to have his case dismissed was denied by Judge Braun, more recently, including earlier this month. It was thought negotiations were underway for a settlement. But this week, the Judge said its apparent Humphries doesn’t want to settle, despite Barber maintaining a settlement is done.
The Judge goes on to say the time for Barber’s motion on settlement is three months ago, and deadlines set by the Court are not optional, that its become apparent the only thing that will resolve the case is a trial. So the Judge has scheduled a conference later this month to discuss trial preparations.
