State police in Somerset County are providing new details about what lead to a shooting in Acosta late last week.
Investigators say 42-year-old Jonathan Kearns, of Somerset, was arrested Friday after he allegedly shot a man with a shotgun during a monetary dispute with a woman.
According to the affidavit, police say Kearns was dropped off at a residence along the 100 block of 2nd Street in Acosta, Jenner Township, around 11 a.m. Friday.
Troopers say Kearns allegedly entered the home and began yelling the woman’s name, before entering a bedroom where she and the victim were sleeping.
Police say Kearns was reportedly holding a shotgun and began yelling at the woman about $200 that she had allegedly lost.
Investigators say that when the victim intervened, Kearns reportedly ordered him to go to sit in a chair before pointing the gun at the victim’s head and stating, “I’ll put brains on the wall.”
Police say Kearns then allegedly ordered the woman to leave with him, at which time he then “reengaged” with the victim and shot him in the abdomen.
Troopers say Kearns then stated that he used a rubber bullet in the gun and again ordered the woman to leave with him.
Police say the woman refused and attempted to contact authorities, at which time Kearns reportedly took her phone from her and left the residence.
Investigators say the woman then called 911 using a roommate’s phone.
Authorities say the victim was then transported to Conemaugh Hospital where doctors had to perform surgery to remove six rubber BBs from his abdomen.
Police say the victim also suffered an abrasion to his thigh during the attack.
According to online court records, Kearns was arraigned late Friday night on charges of felony aggravated assault, simple assault and illegal firearms possession.
He is being housed at the Somerset County Jail on $10,000 bail.
