Two Jefferson County Men Arrested For Arson

State police say two men are behind bars in Jefferson County following an investigation into a fire at a Punxsutawney apartment building.

Troopers say 19-year-old Tyler Neal, of Punxsutawney, and 24-year-old Daniel Heitzenrater, of Glen Campbell, allegedly admitted to setting the fire in an upstairs apartment at a building located along Pine Street, in Punxsutawney Borough.

According to the affidavit, police were contacted by the fire department, on Sept. 30th, to assist with the investigation into a blaze at the apartment building.

Troopers noted that the upstairs apartment was unoccupied at the time of the fire, while the downstairs apartment had two residents.

Investigators say a majority of the damage from the fire was contained to the upstairs attic of the building.

Upon further investigation, police say video surveillance from the property reportedly showed two men entering the upstairs apartment, during the early morning hours of Sept. 30th.

Police say moments later, the two men exit the apartment as smoke begins to pour from the building.

Investigators say the two men were later identified as Neal and Heitzenrater, who reportedly both admitted to setting the fire in the attic of the building.

Police say the pair also admitted to starting the blaze by pouring rubbing alcohol on various clothes and items, and then lighting it.

According to online court records, both men are facing a variety of charges, headlined by multiple felony counts of arson, reckless endangerment and conspiracy to commit arson.

Both Neal and Heitzenrater are jailed at the Jefferson County Prison.
