Today is the annual United Way day of caring in Centre County.
Hundreds of volunteers are helping nonprofit agencies with a host of projects including one at a site that’s more than 200 years old.
At Bellefonte’s Union Cemetery
“This is a valentine burial plot. one of Penn State’s first Presidents, Evan Ough was married to a Valentine, so he’s buried here”
There’s also Pennsylvania Governors buried here, along with 970 veterans and many more a lot of history, and in recent years more folks signing up for historic preservation projects
“So first what you want to do is. now whoever put this concrete here, I wouldn’t of done that”
Thursday, the cemetery, one of nearly 50 sites in Centre County where United Way volunteers were pitching in for the annual Day of Caring
“People getting out of their offices,plus we have a lot of younger people, which is the future of our non-profits”
The Day of Caring enables United Way non-profits to save money with the volunteer labor. Its the 30th anniversary of the Day of Caring in Centre County.
